ABOUT

Brazilian, of Armenian origin, Ara Vartanian was born in Beirut, Lebanon, and moved to Brazil with his family when he was just 1 year old. The passion for stones is in his blood: once settled in São Paulo, his father became one of the most prominent diamonds and precious gems dealers in Brazil, as well as fine jewelry, which were made by important European designers and Ara’s mother.

He initially tried to resist his calling by studying economics at the University of Boston, and then spent four years working in New York as a specialist Nasdaq trader. However, his destiny was already written and in 2000 he returned to Brazil and took his first steps in the sector, working for his father’s company. At the same time, in 2002, he started designing his own jewelry. An instant success, his creations began selling internationally the same year. In 2005, Ara decides to fly solo and opened the atelier of the brand that carries his name.

With a deep knowledge of classic jewelry, Ara consolidated his reputation with timeless pieces containing a touch of subversion and full of emotion. They are beautiful jewels to look at, from all sides and angles – a constant concern throughout Ara’s trajectory, along with comfort and originality. “What brings creativity is emotion. I have always been very sincere with my feelings in this relationship that involves me, the stone and the design”, says the jeweler

Always open to dialogue with other creative minds and to stimulate the exchange of ideas, the jeweler developed partnerships with great contemporary artists, such as the collection with Janaina Tschäpe and a work of art with Ernesto Neto. In 2017, Ara released a 27-piece collab with the supermodel Kate Moss, which included rings and mandala pendants.
